This is a big step forward for @THORChain and enables us to connect + test new chains at a faster clip.
It also mimics mainnet more closely and allows for meaningful economic games during the chain integration phase.https://t.co/sCRbolFvlH
In a recent tweet, Nine Realms announced that a first pass at creating a THORChain Stagenet is complete.
A testnet is a copy of a blockchain's codebase that runs without economically significant assets. Testnets allow developers to quickly test new code features and verify security before releasing code to the main chain. Historically, THORChain has relied on running its code on testnet before moving it to chaosnet.
The key problem with testnets is that because their assets don't have actual value, war-gaming and battle-testing economic security is difficult – hackers have no incentive to attack the network. As THORChain rolls out support for new blockchains and launches new THORFi features, ensuring their security is essential, prior to releasing them to mainnet.
To solve this problem, THORChain developers have created Stagenet – a new network that clones THORChain with real assets, including RUNE. Stagenet will have capped liquidity and node operators, but real economic incentives. This design will allow for rapid testing of the security of new features.
