Banking services across the country are all experiencing outages as websites fail to load.
A widespread internet outage is primarily affecting online banking services across the country. Chase, American Express, Vanguard, Navy Federal, Fidelity, Interactive Brokers, and more are all experiencing failures as users are unable to login to their accounts.
It is unknown at this time what has caused the outage, but it is possibly related to an Akamai Edge DNS service outage.
Events such as this further strengthen the desire to adopt decentralized finance as a more resilient alternative to traditional banking.
View the Pingdom Live Map for a real-time view of this global outage. At the time of writing, over 20,000 websites are down.
Akamai has issued a fix for the glitch, and judging by the above Pingdom map, sites are beginning to come back online. They have also mentioned that the problem is not due to a cyber attack.
This is a developing story, stay tuned for further updates.
